1- What are the symptoms of COVID 19?
According to WHO, the most common symptoms of coronavirus are high fever, dry cough and excessive tiredness. Some patients may have sore throat, nasal congestion, body pain and diarrhea. It is important to note that these symptoms are very mild in the beginning and some patients may have also have no symptoms at all (asymptomatic). Though anyone can catch COVID 19, older people with underlying health conditions are at a higher risk of developing the illness. If you experience any of the symptoms, it is advised to seek medical attention without any delay.
2- How does coronavirus spread?
A person can catch the disease from others infected with the virus. Coronavirus spreads from one person to another through small droplets from the mouth or nose. These droplets are expelled when the person sneezes, coughs or speaks. One can catch the infection if he breathes in these droplets from an infected person. The doctors therefore advice to stay at least 3 feet away from others to prevent chances of infection. It is also important to know that the droplets can stay on the urfaces such as doorknobs and tables. Touching these surfaces can also spread the infection.  It is therefore advised to keep washing hands regularly.
3- What does it mean to self isolate?
For anyone who has COVID 19 symptoms, self isolation is the only way to avoid infecting others. You can do it voluntarily or after health care provider’s recommendation. However, it is best to seek medical help. Wear a mask, wash hands regularly, keep one meter distance from others, your family members and monitor your symptoms regularly. The isolation period should be of 14 days at least, even if you feel fit and healthy. When self isolating, it is important to stay positve and keep in touch with your loved ones.
4- Is there a vaccine or treatment for COVID 19?
At present, there is no vaccine or specific drug that can be used for coronavirus treatment. However, all those who are seriously ill need to be admitted in the hospital so that they can receive treatment for complications. The vaccine for prevention and treatment of coronavirus are currently under investigation. Till then, following all precautions is the only way to to prevent chances of catching an infection.
