Tips To Stay healthy During Pregnancy

Almost every woman experiences anxiety at some point or other, but soon-to-be mothers can actually pile on a few more factors that can even send the coolest mothers into night sweats. While we all know that stress is bad for your mental and physical health, it is also important to understand that it could even have an impact on the baby. In order to understand how to remain mentally and physically healthy during pregnancy, read on.

Eat right & stay hydrated

Pregnancy symptoms can vary from a missed period to extreme fatigue or nausea, all of which can make the to-be mother feel sick or weak. While eating healthy is necessary for all, maintaining a healthy diet is especially important for pregnant women. It always helps to remind yourself that your baby needs healthy food, not sugar and fat. Consuming plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, calcium-rich foods and foods that are low in saturated fats strengthens the body, this maintaining a healthy diet for both the mother and the baby. Additionally, a pregnant woman's body requires more water than normal. It is important to at least drink eight or more cups of water each day.

Proper prenatal care & exercise

It is important for pregnant women to get proper, professional prenatal care from a healthcare professional or even opt for a group prenatal care if available. Mothers who don't get sufficient and regular prenatal care are much more likely to have a child with low birth weight. Exercising regularly bears beneficial results for pregnant women. However, it is also important to check with your doctor to find out how much physical activity would be right for you.

Get your vitamins

Folic acid and calcium is extremely essential for a pregnant mother. You can get these and other necessary vitamins and minerals from foods such as spinach, broccoli, kidney beans and oranges. For calcium, consume fresh milk, yogurt and spinach. Besides consuming fresh fruits and vegetables, certain drugs and treatments, such as a daily prenatal multivitamin can help ensure that you get just the right amount of vitamins, only after consulting your doctor.

Don't drink alcohol or smoke

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that women should definitely not drink alcohol before and during their pregnancy or even while breastfeeding. Drinking alcohol increases the risk of having a baby with fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD). This causes abnormal facial features, behavioural issues and several learning disabilities.

To add to it, smoking is also equally unhealthy for you and your unborn child. It in fact, increases the risk of SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome), miscarriages and many other unhealthy outcomes.

Pregnancy can be more stressful than it seems for new mothers. A sufficient amount of sleep (7 to 9 hours) is extremely essential for you as well as your unborn baby in order to do away with stress.
